MODEL UNITED NATIONS
AT CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY
ABOUT

Model United Nations is a multifaceted organization at Central Michigan University. We are a registered student organization, a class, a chapter of the United Nations Association and a club that holds our own conference. Students apart of MUN at CMU benefit from countless opportunities to develop their professional skills. Below are some of the different opportunities we have to offer!
EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS
Students can earn up to 11 credit hours taking Model United Nations. In PSC 353, students learn the basics of how the United Nations conducts business and how to write resolutions. The fundamentals of parliamentary procedure are also taught in this class, a skill beneficial in many professional fields. Once students have taken this class they may enroll in PSC 354, advanced Model United Nations. In 354 students build upon their skills and serve as mentors to incoming students. PSC 355 is the lab for the course. This lab fee plus tuition from the classes makes it possible for students to attend conferences at little to no cost.

LEADERSHIP ROLES

Each semester a student is chosen to be the Head Delegate. In this role students take on the same responsibilities a teaching assistant would have. During the conference the Head Delegate serves as a resource for other students and is not required to serve in a committee. The energy the Head Delegate brings to the class determines the overall success of the delegation. Along with Head Delegate, we have other leadership roles that include the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Student Government Representative that are year long positions. Our leaders come from various skill sets and work to provide and inclusive environment for all students.
EVENT MANAGEMENT
Every semester we hold a high school conference called ChipMUN. This conference is completely led by students and serves as a main fundraiser for the class. High school students from across the state of Michigan attend our one day conference and strengthen their diplomatic skills. The cabinet for ChipMUN works year long securing sponsors, managing conference logistics, training conference staff and reaching out to schools for participants. The conference raises thousands of dollars and hosts hundreds of students annually. ChipMUN is an amazing opportunity for students looking to further their skills in event programming.

NETWORKING

Model United Nations is a great way to make new connections, whether it be within the University or across the country. Student leaders in the class are also able to form relationships with various departments across campus. When attending the conference students have the opportunity of meeting fellow peers from across the globe. Conferences also feature sessions specifically designed for networking that host Graduate Schools and UN officials. Many of our students go on to accomplish great things.
LASTING FRIENDSHIPS
Throughout your time with MUN you will meet highly motivated students that truly care about changing the world. Many of our students say they have made the best friends of their life in MUN. The team atmosphere fostered in the class focuses on uplifting each other and celebrating our victories together. During down time at the conferences students are encouraged to explore the city together and students share hotel rooms for the duration of the conference.
